    Nonlinear aerodynamic global model indentification using Gram-Schmidt orthogonalisation13;

    Get PDF
    This paper discusses a simple technique to identify global models for nonlinear aerodynamic force and moment coefficients of aircraft using multivariate orthogonal functions. Classical Gram-Schmidt procedure and Predicted Squared Error metric are used to generate the orthogonal functions. Global models for the F-16 aircraft are identified from a simplified subsonic (Mach less than 0.6) wind tunnel database available in open literature. The identified models are compared with those found in literature for the same wind tunnel database and conclusions are drawn.

    Flight Data Analysis and Parameter Estimation for LCA - Phase III - Final Report

    Get PDF
    The Document Briefly Describes The Major Tasks Accomplished In Phase III Of The Project . Flight Test Data Were Generated From Planned Maneuvers At Various Test Points In The Flight Envelope. The Analysis Was No Longer Restricted To Small Amplitude Maneuvers ; Data From Large Amplitude Maneuvers Were Analyzed As Well To Obtain Parameter Estimates Over A Wider Range Of Angle Of Attack . Most Of The Estimates Adhered Closely To The Trends Predicted By Wind Tunnel Database And There Were No Major Surprises Except For The Reduction In Direction Stability And Aileron Control Effectiveness . Results Were Also Obtained For Coefficient Level Matching, Drag-Polar Estimation And Flight Data Analysis With Airbrakes . The Tasks Carried Out Are Discussed In Detail In The Interim Reports/Project Documents (A Complete List Is Provided At The End Of The Report). The Document Also Highlights Certain. Issues That Need To Be Investigated

    Underdeveloped Spot Markets and Futures Trading: The Soya Oil Exchange in India

    Get PDF
    Abstract The limited presence of futures exchanges in developing countries where commodity markets fall short of the ideal underscore the importance of understanding the relation between spot and futures markets. The paper examines the exceptional success of the soya oil contract at the National Board of Trade (NBOT) in India. The paper asks whether the NBOT contract exhibits the fundamental features of mature futures markets in terms of its use by hedgers. If the market offers arbitrage opportunities to hedgers and if such activity is significant, then the activities of commercial firms should affect the returns to their hedging portfolio i.e., change in basis. This insight is developed into an examination of the impact of soya oil imports on the basis. Despite the lack of key market institutions such as certified warehouses and centralized spot prices, the NBOT contract compares well with mature exchanges. Soya oil imports exercise a significant impact on the basis and provide enough short-term volatility to make the contract attractive to both hedgers and speculators.basis, hedging, futures market, spot markets, soya oil, Marketing, G13, Q13,

    Inward Investment and Market Structure in an Open Developing Economy: A Case of India’s Manufacturing Sector

    Get PDF
    India announced series of liberalization measures since mid 1980s that inter-alia led to an unprecedented increase in the inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI). Evidence suggests that the rising inflows of FDI have influence on host country market structure though the direction is uncertain. Analytically, market structure has implications on the long run growth path of an economy through its effect on the allocation of economic resources among various economic activities including innovation. In this context, the objective of this paper is to analyze the bearing of FDI on market concentration with special reference to India’s manufacturing industries during the post-reform period. The study made use of firm level and product level data and panel regression techniques to fulfill the objective. The estimated model has shown a positive and significant influence of FDI on market concentration. If the result of the study is any indication, the increased inflow of FDI is likely to make India’s manufacturing sector more concentrated and calls for policy measures to mitigate undesirable outcomes of FDI inflows

    Study of Routing Protocols in Telecommunication Networks

    Get PDF
    In this paper we have discussed the problem of routing in telecommunication networks and the salient characteristics of some of the most popular routing schemes. In particular, we have discussed the characteristics of adaptive and multipath routing solutions versus static and single-path strategies

    Study and Analysis of Ant System

    Alot of species of ants have a trail-laying/trailfollowing behavior when foraging. While moving, individual ants deposit on the ground a volatile chemical substance called pheromone, forming in this way pheromone trails. Ants can smell pheromone and, when choosing their way, they tend to choose, in probability, the paths marked by stronger pheromone concentrations. In this way they create a sort of attractive potential field, the pheromone trails allows the ants to find their way back to food sources (or to the nest). Also, they can be used by other ants to find the location of the food sources discovered by their nest mates

    Natural Fibers: Applications

    Get PDF
    Fibers derived from bio-based sources such as vegetables and animal origin are termed as natural fibers. This definition includes all natural cellulosic fibers (cotton, jute, sisal, coir, flax, hemp, abaca, ramie, etc.) and protein-based fibers such as wool and silk. There are also man-made cellulose fibers (e.g., viscose rayon and cellulose acetate) that are produced with chemical procedures from pulped wood or other sources (cotton, bamboo). Natural fibers being cost effective and abundantly available yields high potential in various industrial and commercial applications such as in the interior applications of the passenger cars, panels for partition and false ceiling, partition boards, roof tiles, coir fibers in packaging, furniture applications, as insulating materials in low energy houses, geo-textiles for soil protection and erosion control, enhancing barrier properties, composites etc. Due to research and developmental work in modification and treatment methods of natural fibers, utilization of natural fibers has observed a significant growth in various applications. The chapter addresses the potential applications of natural fibers in various commercial sectors for the development of environment-friendly products with an aim to replace synthetic fibers or inorganic fillers with cost-effective and efficient products
